- Robert B. McNeill was born Edinburgh, Scotland. He took up freelance journalism in 1990, after spending many years in direct sales. His feature articles on Scotland, Scottish history, and World War II have appeared in many publications worldwide, including Compass, Scots Magazine, The Highlander and Hemispheres (the in-flight magazine of United Airlines).
He has also written a number of western novels and WWII action adventure stories. Non-fiction books include a reference book on Edinburgh entitled 'Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile: a fully-illustrated guide to the Old Town's ancient thoroughfare.'
Now retired, he devotes his time to his current interest – police procedural crime mysteries set in Edinburgh featuring Detective Inspector Jack Knox. He lives with his family in the city.
